The extent to which this Boston edition is "Revised" from its predecessor is uncertain, though we note it is in a somewhat smaller format (20cm vs. 23cm) and longer by some 35pp. WRIGHT III 4564 (the New Bedford edition).

Octavo; green cloth, titled in gilt on spine and in white on front cover; dustjacket; xxviii,242pp; thirty inserted leaves of plates (halftones). A straight, attractive copy in the original pictorial dustwrapper, lightly t…oned and soiled with a small (ca 1/4" diameter) puncture at base of rear spine-fold, still Very Good or better. This is presumably a ca. 1930sFront panel of jacket identifies this as a "Special Anniversary Edition," Tales of the New Bedford whaling trade, by a retired ship's captain. Includes a brief introduction by E.E. Hale. This Salem edition, issued some fifteen years after the original publication, adds a substantial publisher's foreword and is somewhat less common than its predecessors. This edition was apparently available exclusively through Hutchinson's Book Store in New Bedford, as the front-flap jacket copy states that "A very limited number of copies of "The Gam" is now available - Hutchinson's Book Store recently acquired the balance of the third and last edition." WRIGHT III: 4564 (the 1899 New Bedford edition).
