Presented at St. Mark's S…chool in Southborough, Massachusetts, where Webster was a Senator, this compilation was originally published in 1879 and includes an essay on Webster's mastery of the English language from literary critic and public lecturer, Edwin Whipple. Lovers of oration and American legal history will find themselves at home among Webster's words. This later printing is neatly bound in three-quarter blue morocco prize binding and has a presentation notice adhered to front pastedown. Spots of wear to corners, gentle shelf wear, 1" shallow tide mark to top corner with no impact on interior, offset toning to free endpapers, still near fine. Overall a tight and internally clean copy. Three-quarter blue morocco prize binding, school crest and spine decorations stamped in gilt, gilt ruled, teg, Fantasy marbled endpapers.
