Das Ziel war es, zunächst die Interaktionen zwischen dem Dirigenten Karl Ristenpart, dem von ihm 1953 gegründeten Saarländischen Kammerorchester sowie den Rundfunk- und Schallplattenindustrien darzustellen. Danach wurde versucht, den Einfluß dieser Interaktionen auf Repertoire, Produktion und Rezeption zu ergründen. Um dieses vielfältige Vorhaben zu verwirklichen, wurden Vorträge gegeben und Gesprächsrunden geführt, unter anderem von und mit Zeitzeugen der betroffenen Produktion (darunter Orchestermusiker, Solisten, Tonmeister und Produzenten). Nicht nur die hohe Qualität der erhaltenen Aufnahmen des SKO unter der Leitung Karl Ristenparts ist markant, sondern auch die Breite seines Repertoires beim SR und seine geradezu vorbildliche Zusammenarbeit mit namhaften französischen Solisten schon in der frühen Nachkriegszeit.
