      °°° [SUMMER SALES: PRICE-REDUCTION of 50% until Thursday, September 10, 2026; previously EUR 480,-] --- FIRST EDITION OF THIS RARE, PROMPT AND EXHAUSTIVE DOCUMENTARY OF THE DISASTER, bound in Publisher's gilt-titled cloth as traditional blockbook-binding, endpapers made of special silver-and-gold-spotted laidpaper, all edges gilt; oblong-folio (ca. 27,5 x 37,5 x 2 cm; 2 kg.). - THE INCIDENT KNOWN AS 'THE 1923 GREAT KANTO EARTHQUAKE' struck the western-central region of Honshu on Saturday, September 1, 1923 with a magnitude of 7.9. Over 100.000 people were confirmed dead from this catastrophe, many in firestorms because it happened during lunchtime when people were preparing food on open fires. As the earthquake broke water mains all over the city putting out the fires took nearly two full days; a few hundred-thousand houses were destroyed by fire alone. The Home Ministry declared martial law to rebuild order and security after anti Korean sentiments turned into massive prosecuting and killing of asian ethnic group-members.
