The book has every day of the year in it twice, a page for musicians birthdays and a page to write your own acquaintences. This book has been written in by the previous owner with names in black ink written on some of the pages. Muscians handwriting and even some sheet music is printed on to some of the pages. This unique book would be a fine addition to any collector of vintage books. Each day of the year is represented on facing pages, with versos recording notable musician birthdays on that date with a short musical notation, or an epigram or quote and the facing recto page space blank for the owner to record details relating to the person whose birth date they share with that musician. This copy belonged to William D Spark of Newcastle-upon-Tyne with his ownership signature. Spark collected over 150 autographs in his book including many famous musicians and actors. Spark himself signed the book noting he was a "Solo Bass". At the rear of the book Spark has written an index of the autographs arranged by profession. 8vo., original publishers black pebble-grain leather. Binding a little worn, otherwise a very good copy. The list of autographs is a smorgasbord of Edwardian culture. Actors and actresses include: Sarah Bernhardt, Ellen Terry, Henry Irving, Herbert Beerbohm Tree, Maud Beerbohm Tree, Viola Beerbohm Tree, Lillie Langtree, Forbes Robertson, Ellaline Terriss Hicks and Edward Terry. Musicians include: Enrico Caruso, John McCormack, Clara Butt, Charles Villiers Stanford, Hamish McCunn, Samuel Coleridge Taylor, and Joseph Joachim. A fuller list is available on request.
