In 1792, Lyman and an associate disrupted the service of local minister Oliver Dodge, who had been given permission to preach at Lyman's church against Lyman's wishes. After loudly reading a remonstrance against Dodge's character, the two were arrested for disturbing the peace. Lyman's objections to Dodge were borne out in 1799 when Dodge was excommunicated from his own church after giving a drunken, profanity-laden sermon. English Short-Title Catalogue W28417.
