Hinges and edges of the leather rubbed; upper outer hinge of Vol. I archivally repaired. Interiors clean and bright. This set has a proof of the frontis to Volume I, in addition to the completed engraved plate, both signed Tony Johannot in the plate (the proof more freehand and larger at center). Apparently a translation of Douxme nil's 'Memoires et lettres pour servir a` l'histoire de la vie de Mademoiselle de L'Enclos,' 1751, though the translator, Elizabeth Griffith says it is from 'detached pieces lately published in France under the title of Le petit reservoir'. The letters to the Marquis de Sevigne are the spurious ones composed by Louis Damours and sometimes ascribed to C.P. Jolyot de Cre billon. B/w Engraved Illustrations.…
