This catalogue, originally produced to mark the occasion of the major exhibition, gives a full career survey of Mapplethorpe's controversial photographic practice. Notably included are Mapplethorpe's explorations of gay fetish culture and sadomasochism. The often soft studio lighting and concern with classical ideals of beauty in his erotic work sit alongside some of Mapplethorpe's colour floral still lifes.
