Arranged in 51 sections or 'numbers', it con¬tains every conceivable information on the management of a regiment (marching and parade orders, words of command, protocol, accounts, military jurisdiction, punishments, funerals etc.) The present edition has additional tables and incorporates Saxon drill rules. The plates depict parade and battle formations and plans for encampments; the tables list the names, locations and strengths of all imperial regiments from 1685 to 1728 and their commanders. The author, a quarter master general in the imperial service, was killed in 1717 during the siege of Belgrade. An exceptionally good copy for a manual of this kind; an early owner has decorated the inside of front cover by pasting in 4 hand-coloured engraved paper cut-outs of cavalry scenes produced by the popular Augsburg engraver and print dealer Martin Engelbrecht (1684-1756) for decorating furnishings.
