Mildred English (Georgia State College for Women) and Thomas Alexander (Teachers College, Columbia University) were key figures in early 20th-century progressive education, emphasizing child-centered learning through reading and art. Elizabeth C. Tazelaar was known for her textbook illustration and visual pedagogy work, while Warren Chappell (1904-1991) later gained recognition as a designer, typographer, and illustrator of literary classics.
