This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The focus of the book is to demonstrate a feasibility study for detecting wormhole defects using the frequency spectrum, phase space, and time spectrum of feedback forces in real-time. It is asserted here that the oscillations of the feedback forces are related to the dynamics of the plasticized material flow and that the feedback forces can provide useful information for detecting wormhole defects. Two real-time feedback-force evaluation algorithms are developed for assessing the weld quality. A probability of detection analysis is conducted to compare the wormhole-detection performance of the two algorithms. Both algorithms detect defects greater than 0.5 mm with 95% mean probability of detection, and both algorithms evaluate 3-second-long time series segments in less than 0.1 seconds. The present study not only demonstrates the possibility of identifying weld quality in real-time but also provides evidence that the oscillations of the feedback forces are related to the material flow. In general, the book introduces a real-time approach for providing important feedback information about weld quality to a control system for Friction Stir Welding. 208 pp. Englisch.

The use of animals in medicine is based on significant anatomical, physiological, and molecular similarities between humans and animals. Particularly, mammals that have vast biological commonalities with humans represent not only a valuable model to explore the mechanisms of varied human diseases, but also to define new diagnostic and treatment strategies. This book covers broad but important aspects of animal modeling for scientific medicine as well as for translational systems and biological sciences. Alternative methods such as cell cultureand in vitro experiments that do not require the sacrifice of an animal are encouraged for scientific and medical studies. 304 pp. Englisch.

Neuware -Along with remarkable improvements in prevention, diagnostics, and medical care, common diseases of childhood have evolved considerably. Preventable childhood diseases have declined remarkably in newborns, young children, and adolescents because of scientific and medical discoveries in vaccine and drug development, newborn diagnostic screening, genetics, and genomics. Varied imaging, telemonitoring, and interventional technologies have been successfully implemented to detect early and treat effectively childhood diseases that traditionally had been thought of as devastating and deadly. Along with these, changes in environment, urbanization and pollution, sedentary lifestyles, and overload of the Internet and social media have impacted the health and wellbeing of our children, gradually increasing the prevalence and morbidity of obesity, drug-resistant infections, cancer, neurological conditions, and autism spectrum disorders in the pediatric population. This book explores select neurological, hematological, rheumatological, and nephrological diseases that we editors consider to have substantially evolved over the past decades.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 232 pp. Englisch.
