Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - What does it mean to have high expectations for five-year-old learners In one of the author's classrooms, children are treated as authors, as world citizens, and as confident, responsible community and family contributors. Kindergartners publish their own stories and keep them on the same shelves as books from libraries and bookstores. In addition to books, these young students also produce their own plays, thank-you cards, and math problems. Zaragoza, Dwyer, and Brownie (the class mascot) invite new teachers along as they take one class of children through a month-by-month journey of authorship, literacy development, poetry, positive interaction, and imagination. This book is appropriate for both undergraduate and graduate students of education, early childhood, and teachers of English-language learners. It can also be of value to scholars of constructivist and/or critical theory.

Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. This book examines the impact of and response to the rapidly growing English language learner (ELL) populations in the southeastern United States on K-16 schooling. Using examples of policy and practice from seven states (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee), the book explores how the contemporary context of accountability regimes and neoliberal tenets affect educational responses to the increased linguistic and cultural diversity in schools and how these realities may be different from when traditional states (such as California or Florida) were developing their responses to (im)migration. The collection of chapters addresses key questions of teacher preparation, effective infrastructures, and frameworks for serving ELLs, dual language bilingual education, and advocacy efforts at the state, district, and local level in the Southeast. The authors describe promising practices in each state, but also note the need for more systemic, statewide approaches that resist the enduring monolingual discourse that has historically characterized much of ELL schooling. They call for transformative policies and practices that take current research into account and that stress the centrality of pluralistic principles to design effective schools for ELLs. This book examines the response to the rapidly growing English language learner populations in the southeastern United States. It addresses policy and practice related to teacher preparation, effective infrastructures, frameworks for serving ELLs, dual language bilingual educa. Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. This book is about the policy-practice praxis in English language education, and draws on research from a diverse range of under-explored international settings to showcase the importance of contextual realities on how policy and practice interact. The case studies covered in the volume come from five continents (Africa, Europe, Asia, and South and North America) and cover 11 countries in total. The authors cover a wide range of themes and identify a number of issues at the interface between policy and practice. In some cases they also highlight local initiatives for navigating these issues, providing contextually-grounded guidance and experience which will be of use to teachers and teacher trainers in other settings. This book will be of interest to policy makers, EMI researchers, ELT practitioners, teacher trainers and trainees, and the broader Applied Linguistics research community.
