Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. This work is written for all those who have struggled with the concept of God, with their faith in God, and how God can be at all relevant in our world today. Written in the context of a personal crisis, which frames the work, it is the first of a planned three-volume systematic theology under the title, Confessions of a Heretic. It seeks to answer the question of how can one believe in God when horrible things happen, from personal tragedy and trauma, to natural disasters and war. The answer is not a comforting one, but one that asserts that the problem is with our conception of God to begin with. We strive to make God conform to our will. But that is the very definition of idolatry, and the work argues that the established religious traditions, including Christianity, and especially Christianity in America, are idolatrous, based on idolatrous conceptions of God. Yet to see how this is so, we have to delve into philosophical arguments regarding Being, Time, Reality, and the very understanding of what a human being actually is, whereby the argument proposes a radical reconceptualization of the Western philosophical tradition on these issues. His work has made a major contribution to our understanding of Augustine's influence on intellectual life of Europe from the 14th to the 16th century. In the present volume the heritage of Augustine in the later Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Reformation is illustrated by contributions from leading scholars in the field, which range from academic disputation at Oxford in the early 14th century, to the world of John Calvin in the 16th century. It is the diversity of the Augustinian tradition that is documented here. The authors of the articles collected in this volume have investigated anew such well known sources as Gregory of Rimini's Sentences Commentary and Johannes von Staupitz's sermons. In addition, they have brought to light previously unknown works such as Antonius Rampegolus' Figurae Bibliorum and an anonymous Sermo de Antichristo. In this collection the richness of the Augustinian tradition in the later Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Reformation appears, a broad via Augustini, which Damasus Trapp has done so much to illuminate. This Festschrift is a testimony to the continuous influence and inspiration of his contribution.'.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - This book is the second of a planned three-volulme systematic theology under the title, Confessions of a Heretic. Volume One, which has the subtitle, Philosophical Considerations, was published by Archway in 2024. The project now turns to Theological Considerations, with the forthcoming Volume Three being Ecclesiological Consideration. Organized into three Parts, Volume Two focuses on the theological endeavor, and the doctrines distinctive to Christianity, namely, the Trinity, Jesus Christ, sin, and salvation. Based on the foundational distinctions and defintions explicated in Volume One, the current volume seeks to ask what the philosophcial considerations imply for basic traditional understandings and terminology of Christian theology, including that of Jesus of Nazareth, his crucifixion and resurrection. The project as a whole adopts a trinitarian structure, with this second volume focused on 'God the Son', or, as here termed, 'God' the Perfector. The argument is that Christian Theology needs to shift from an anthropocentric to a theocentric approach, recognzing human beings simply as creatures, and having the courage to face what that entails. Yet doing so necessitates a radical reconceptualization of the very foundations of Christian Theology itself, in the attempt to combat idolatry.
