Kretschmer, Ernst, 1888-1964. Geniale Menschen. Mit einer Porträtsammlung. Berlin: Verlag von Julius Springer, 1929, vii, 253pp., good blue cloth, cover scuffed and worn. Kretschmer was taken quite seriously in his day, discussed by art historians in Vienna (as recalled by Gombrich), and reviewed sympathetically in England. The psychic polarities which give rise to genius probably tell us more about the philosophical strategies of the day than about creativity. CONTENTS: Erster Teil: Gesetze - Das Dämonische, Trieb und Geist, Die geprägte Form der Persönlichkeit, Die Züchtung der Begabung, Genie und Rasse - Zweiter Teil: Bilder - Die seelische Periodik. Der Lebenskünstler, Geschlecht und Pubertät. Die Lebenskurven, Der Forscher, Held und Herrenmensch, Inspiration und Verehrung, Der Prophet - Dritter Teil: Porträtsammlung. / Kretschmer's association of certain physical types with particular diseases is still outlined in detail in lexica of psychology.…

Kretschmer, Ernst, 1888-1964. Medizinische Psychologie. Leipzig: Georg Thieme Verlag, 1930, 4te vermehrte und verbesserte Auflage, 265pp., sewn PAPERBACK, faded green paper wraps. Kretzschmer's book was considered a standard work in its day. (1, 1930/31: 412).…
