Der zweite Weltkrieg verhinderte den weiteren akademischen Werdegang. Nach dem Krieg arbeitete sie als freie Illustratorin für Kinderbücher und als Porzellanmalerin. "Es war ihr persönlich wichtig, den kriegsgeschundenen Kindern etwas Schönes in die Hand zu geben, sie brauchten ja Trost in der schweren Zeit und hatten nichts".
