Die Geschichte der Sinti und Roma war lange von Diskriminierung, Verfolgung und Vertreibung geprägt - auch in Lübeck. Während der nationalsozialistischen Gewaltherrschaft von 1933 bis 1945 waren sie in der Hansestadt systematischen Schikanen, willkürlichen Verhaftungen, schließlich Deportation und Vernichtung ausgesetzt. Allein am 20. Mai 1940 wurden über 60 Sinti, Sintizze, Roma und Romnja in das Vernichtungslager Belzec in Polen deportiert. Im ersten Teil dieses Buches wird in 15 "Gedenk-Blättern" erstmals das Schicksal dieser verfolgten Lübecker Familien in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus geschildert.
