Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Stated first edition. Hardcover, very good in a fair to good DJ. DJ has several small (1/8 to 1/2 inch) nicks and chips along edges, rear panel scuffed with some faint numbers written on it. Top edge of front flap is torn off (c. 1/2 to 3/4 inches deep) , and no price present. Reverse side of DJ… water stained. The book itself has some of the cloth affected by the water (noticeable, but better than it sounds! ) , eps lightly tanned, old bookseller's pencil price partially erased. Dust jacket is in good condition with some wear, tears, and chipping. Dust jacket condition preserved within new clear plastic non-adhesive protective covering. 'Karen Blake is not happy wh…en her father returns after ten years as mining engineer in Nicaragua. She had long resented his absence, not knowing the reasons. Before he had left Hunters' Point, fires had caused the shut-down of the Lee Copper Co. and thrown many men out of work. The townspeople had blamed Julian Blake and they still hold him responsible for their misery. Karen had always lived at Hunters' Point and had looked forward to going to college with her friends Neil and Linda. Now with her father's return everything has changed and she wishes they could go elsewhere to live. Home is a sad place with father silently studying and writing day after day. The town is hostile; something is going on. Who is deliberately setting people against her family? The gossip increases and is so generally believed that hte high-school classes mutiny against Karen's teacher-mother; men try to fight her father. Julian Blake thinks he knows the answer. Since a fake gold strike has been rigged, he must be discredited because as a mining engineer he'd know too much. Against his orders, Karen tries to warn her friends of the swindle. Furious at what they think is jealousy of their good fortune, they turn on her. It takes great courage for Mrs. Blake to go on teaching hostile classes. Finally Karen, and Neil at last awake to the danger, trap the swindlers and save Mr. Blake's life. This is, first of all the story of brave people facing up to a hostile, wilfully blind community. It is also a mystery story.' 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Quantity Available: 1. Category: Fiction, Modern First Editions.; Pictures of this item not already displayed here available upon request.
