The Stettheimer sisters, Florine, Ettie (Henrietta), and Carrie (Caroline), belonged to the German Jewish moneyed stratum known as Our Crowd; Ettie was the literary sister, this being then her first book. The Stettheimer sisters spent several years in Europe in the early years of the century, returning to the US before World War I (cf. Yale page on the family). Rare.
