Bruniture ad alcune pagine (per es. all'inizio del vol 2) dovute al tipo di inchiostro; qualche piccola gora marginale; ma nel complesso ottimo esemplare a larghi margini. La cancellazione a penna del nome del tipografo dimostra la provenienza "cattolica" di questo volume: Henricus Petrus era infatti protestante e stampatore della Bibbia di Lutero; i suoi libri in Italia circolavano dunque senza permesso ecclesiastico. La firma di possesso alla pagina di titolo è di Alessandro de Curtis. Legatura coeva in piena pergamena, tassello di titolo dorato al dorso; una mancanza (7x10 cm) al piatto del primo volume, in basso.…

Erste Ausgabe der Werke des Eusebius in der Bearbeitung des Theologen Johann Jakob Grynaeus (1540-1617). Durchaus lohnend vermehrte und, wo nötig, mit Inhaltsangaben und Erklärungen (Argumentis ac Scholius) versehene Ausgabe [.] ein seitengleicher Nachruck dieser Ausgabe erschien in der Offizin schon im März 1579 (Hieronymus). Grynaeus wirkte ab 1586 als Antistes der Basler Kirche und Professor des Neuen Testaments an der dortigen Universität: Seine Wirksamkeit in Basel war jetzt eine bedeutende. Auch das Gymnasium wurde von ihm reorganisirt und die [von Sulzer, dem Vorgänger des Grynaeus, zurückgedrängte] Baseler Confession wieder in ihr Recht eingesetzt. Daneben wurde Grynaeus auch außerhalb Basels zur Verrichtung theologischer Geschäfte mehrseitig herangezogen, so schon 1573 und 74 zur Durchführung der Reformation in Mömpelgard, 1587 zur Regelung der kirchlichen Verhältnisse in Mühlhausen, im April 1588 zur Theilnahme an der Disputation zu Bern. Im Jahr 1612 erblindet, fuhr er doch fort zu predigen und Vorlesungen zu halten, bis er am 13. August 1617 starb (ADB). - Einband berieben, bestoßen, etw. knittrig bzw. gewellt u. tlw. (bes. Ränder) m. kl. Läsuren bzw. Fehlstellen. Schließbänder fehlen. Titel im Seitenrand hinterlegt und mit verblasstem Eintrag im oberen Rand.
