Vasarely MuseumPécs-born Victor Vasarely (1906-1997) first donated a series of graphics to the museum of Pécs in 1968. Six years later he donated several hundreds of silkscreens, tapestries, sculptures and serigraphs representing his work. The exhibition, centred around this collection, was opened in 1976. It displays almost all of his styles, from Bauhaus serigraphs to Op-Art works. One of the world-famous â??Zebrasâ? can also be found here. The â??Popeâ? of Op-Art is the most well-known representative of 20th century Hungarian graphic art. As he always aimed to deceive the eyes with his pictures, in the 1960s the press started to mention him as the father of Op-Art (optical art). His style became part of everyday life and had a huge effect on fashion. He developed his own serigraph workshop and improved the technique of replication so that the general public would be able to afford quality with high artistic and aesthetic value at a reasonable price. Although he settled in France when he was 24, Vasarely always avowed himself a Hungarian.
