Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. This book explores the eclectic practice of artist Sheela Gowda and her ongoing engagement with the paradoxes and predicaments of urban and rural life in modern India. With an emphasis on her sprawling installations, we see her use of distinctive materials from her native India, whose textures, colors and scents lend her work narrative form as well as metaphorical force. Through the imaginative employment of cow dung, kumkum powder, coconut fibers, hair, threads, stones, tar barrels and tarpaulins-which carry magical, cult and ritual, personal and functional connotations-Gowda blends traditions of craftsmanship and practical application with poetic intensity.Gowda began her career as an oil painter, testing out themes and approaches that would shape her later practice: the everyday life of middle-class India, the conflicts women confront at work and at home, appropriating media images that touch on political and social tensions. In the early 1990s she first adopted cow dung as a medium (initially in paintings, later in three-dimensional pieces and installations), exploring its relevance to the Hindu cult of the cow and omnipresence in today's India, from practical uses (in construction, flooring, insulation), to its purifying, healing properties and sacred significance. Z : 98 Seiten/pages, 24 x 15 cm - The French artist Saâdane Afif recipient of the acclaimed Marcel Duchamp Prize in 2009 had his first solo exhibition in 2012 in the German museum, MMK Frankfurt. The exhibition title was derived from André Breton's Surrealist work Anthologie de l'humour noir of 1940. In keeping with his usual approach, Saâdane Afif has called upon well-known protagonists of the art world to write texts about the coffin, taking his own thoughts about it as their point of departure. The texts are part of the accompanying catalogue and form the contextual key to understanding the work.

Hardcover. oversized bw pictorial boards w/ orange printing. approx 30 unpaginated pgs w/ color illustrations; pocket w/ orange LP. LP undamaged from external issues. Text in English and German. "Mouse on Mars take over the Kunstbau with a sound installation for which they developed a site-specific composition. Working with and responding to the exhibition space, the installation transforms the Kunstbau itself into a gigantic stereophonic acoustic instrument. A rotatable horn loudspeaker pitchforks a sound like a pinball into the 110-yard Kunstbau, where it rebounds on the pillars, cants, splinters, is gathered back in, and dies down. One by one, additional sounds from a virtually inexhaustible repertoire are sent out into the space and modulated. Percussive devices operated by robots interject analog acoustic accents. Sequences of different lengths are continuously rearranged so that no two of them recur in the same order. The audience experiences the orchestrated unfolding of a dynamic composition in three dimensions. The space and the sounds generated from it clash and respond to each other, resulting in an acoustic dialogue. A dedicated illumination program is coordinated with the music, seconding the sonic movements and sometimes standing in for them."--Publisher's Website. Good+ (lower corners bruised/bumped & curled. upper, back spine gutter bump & creased. lower spine edge rubbed to board).
