Wilson Company, 1944 A heavy compendium of twentieth century authors, containing an entry on Pound (printed during the war years) reproducing a letter to the editors from 1939 criticising the "betrayal of the American people" by the Bank Act of February 25, 1863, Wilson and Roosevelt. The editors go on to publish, at Pound's request, Pound's Introductory Text-Book; "If you can't print [it] then your profession of wanting an authentic record is mere bunk." Followed then by the usual biographical comment that all authors receive. First edition, second printing (after 1942). Spine softened as one would expect from laying this book out. Orage's last words over the radio, emerging for Rapallo from the crackle of Alpine thunder were: 'in the gap between Price-values and Income is enough gunpowder to blow up every democratic parliament.' Adnuit. That was a fine sentence to die on. Pound's obituary for A. R. Orage (1873-1934), editor of the New Age, a lifelong advocate of economic justice, the difference between property and credit, and the relation between price and material cost. With further contributions from D. G. Bridson, who would travel to Brunnenburg to interview EP in 1959, and Laurence Binyon, a canto from his translation of Dante's Commedia, which translation Pound would later praise when published in full in Broletto, encouraging Italians to read an English translation! A further review of Pound's Make It New by Bonamy Dobree to rear. For a beery voice; II. After Heine; III. An Immorality)--Sub mare--L'Invitation--Dieu! Qu'il la fait--Doria, each appearing here for the first time. "Sub mare", "Dieu! Qu'il la fait", and "Doria" next appear in Ripostes, October 1912; "L'Invitation" not until the Collected Early Poems, 1976; and of "Oboes", "An Immorality" appeared in Ripostes apart from the other two, which appeared without their "Immorality" in Umbra, 1920. An appeasing large paper production which unfortunately prints Pound's verse in a smaller quotation size. A very good copy; small break to wraps at bottom of spine, pencil annotation "PS1" to both front cover and contents page; small bump along top edge. Published Palermo: Accademia Editrice, 1945 An unusual Italian review born as a result of the firm will of certain young university students who felt the acute need for establishing some means of bringing their ideas into contact with those of others, and for participating in the inevitable rebirth of culture after the scourge of war shall have passed. This issue contains a poem of Pound s, The Gipsy (first appearing in Lustra, 1916), with an unrecorded translation by Napoleone Colajanni (1847-1921), a leftist Italian political writer. An essay of Colajanni s, L ideale europeo di Giustizia e Libertà, appeared in Accademia 1. It is unclear the source of these texts; I have been able to find no trace of Colajanni s Lo Zingaro [The Gypsy] elsewhere. Certainly not in Gallup. A good copy with a large, repaired tear to back cover, passing into the subscription blank attached inside rear (unrepaired). Small tear to front cover, and a few brief flicks of ink. Notice inside front cover promises contributions from Archie MacLeish and Mark Vun Doren in the next issue.…

The second of three contributions by Pound to Broletto. In Italian, Pound praises Laurence Binyon's translation of Dante's Divine Comedy, encouraging Italian readers to read the English: as a photograph betrays a painting, so an X-ray photograph can reveal things unavailable to the naked eye. A very good copy, with light wear to the covers (a little grubby on the back cover) and some discolouration at the edges.…

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. Ezra Pound, "Orientamenti." Gallup C1486. The third and final contribution by Pound to Broletto, and by far the most important. Orientamenti is an ideogram on the expiration of Paris as the epicentre of letters, the concern of poets with economics, the wisdom of survival, and the delay of those in cemented seats to see where the world's course is going. Followed by an equally important apologia for the ideogrammic method. (In Italian.) Orientamenti was Pound's chosen title for his next volume of essays, printed in Venice in 1944, of which an unknown and very small number of copies were distributed before the Allies in Italy destroyed the run (see Gallup A55). It appears this essay was not included in the collection. A very good copy, with light wear to the covers, a little grubbying on the back cover, and light discolouration to the edge of the pages.…
