Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book chronicles the development of the French colony in Moscow, centered around Saint Louis des Francais. Founded in 1789, largely due to Catherine II's encouragement of trade and the signing of a commercial treaty in 1786, the church quickly became a hub for over 48 French merchants to gather. The author traces the history of the church and colony through the lives and businesses of these merchants, followed by the acquisition and development of the various properties associated with the church and its growing community. The author provides a vivid and lively account of this significant period for French influence in Moscow and the expansion of their cultural and commercial activities in Russia.
