Die Geschichte eines ungewöhnlichen Lebens und ein sehr persönlicher Blick auf die historischen Ereignisse im Oktober 1989. Aufgewachsen in einem sächsischen Pfarrhaushalt, entschied Christian Führer sich frühzeitig für ein Theologiestudium. Neben seiner Arbeit für die Kirche setzte er sich besonders für die Andersdenkenden in der DDR ein, die wegen ihrer politischen Überzeugungen oder ihrer Kritik am System in Bedrängnis gerieten. Als er 1980 nach Leipzig an die Nikolaikirche berufen wurde, setzte er dieses Engagement fort. Die Nikolaikirche war fortan "Offen für alle!" und wurde in der DDR zum Inbegriff von Freiheit und Toleranz. Immer mehr Menschen kamen zu den wöchentlichen Friedensgebeten. Schließlich versammelten sich am 9. Oktober 1989 über 70.000 DDR-Bürger vor der Nikolaikirche zur größten "Montagsdemonstration"- dem Beginn der friedlichen Revolution. Nach der Wende setzte Pfarrer Führer sein politisches Engagement fort. Er engagierte sich für Arbeitslose, verhinderte Aufmärsche von Neonazis oder protestierte gegen die Schließung traditioneller Unternehmen. In diesem Buch erzählt er von den Ereignissen, die sein Leben prägten, von den Werten und Überzeugungen, die ihm wichtig sind und von besonderen Begegnungen mit Menschen wie Michail Gorbatschow oder Desmond Tutu.
