During the Napoleonic campaign to Egypt a collection of Red Sea, Mediterranean and continental mollusks was brought together by Savigny who published upon them in 1817 as folio engravings. These served as type-figures for a number of species described by 19th century malacologists, including Audouin, Ehrenberg, Deshayes, Philippi, Hupé, Landrin, Jonas, Issel, Morlet, Vaillant, P. Fischer, Tapparone-Canefri, von Martens, Weinkauff, Monterosato, Jousseaume, H. Fischer and finally Pallary.
