Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. This VG- book was published by John C. Winston Company in 1951 and is a stated first edition; it is 8-5/8" x 5-5/8" with 209 numbered pages; there is no frontis or other full page illustrations in this book, only small (approx. 4" x 2-3/4") nicely atmospheric line drawings on the first page of each chapter. This book is square, very clean, free of edge dings and corner bumps; spine ends are lightly bumped but there is no fabric damage. The bottom edges have very little wear and the spine has no wear and little soiling to it. The spine lettering is completely intact and undamaged. Top edge of the pages is toned and freckled. There is slight fading or color loss in the gutters and along the top and bottom edges onto the binding for perhaps as much as 1/4 --nothing serious, just a factor of age. The interior is completely free of writing, stray marks, stains and paper damage of any sort. The paper is slightly toned and still very flexible and not brittle; end pages also have a mild amount of toning. Both hinges are very strong and not damaged in any way. The VG- jacket is toned (see photo with rear panel) but is otherwise in decent condition. It has one chip, at the top of the front panel, and color loss along the front fold and both gutter edges; there are also two short tears at the top of the front panel.
