Hierzu werden zunächst die Wege des Nähr- und Schadstoffeintrags näher behandelt und anschließend der genauere Aufbau eines Gewässerrandstreifens.Nachkommend soll die jeweilige Pufferwirkung auf die unterschiedlichen Eintragswege untersucht werden. Mit diesen Erkenntnissen lässt sich dann ein schrittweises Verfahren zur ingenieurgemäßen Abschätzung der Pufferwirkung auf diffuse Nähr- und Schadstoffeinträge erarbeiten, welches zusätzlich an praktischen Beispielen erläutert wird.Nach WHG 38 ist unter anderem festgelegt, dass ein Gewässerrandstreifen eine Breite von mindestens fünf Metern aufweisen soll. Ein wesentliches Ziel dieser Randstreifen ist der Schutz des Gewässers vor Stoffeinträgen aus landwirtschaftlich genutzten Flächen. Diese mögliche Pufferwirkung ist zum Beispiel nach Steinmann von vielen unterschiedlichen Faktoren abhängig, was eine Abschätzung schwierig macht.
