Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Wilhelm Adrian Van Der Kemp was one of the Dutch "Patriots" who opposed the rule of William V, Prince of Orange. As a result of the uprising, Van Der Kemp was captured, ransomed and subsequently immigrated to the United States. He would go on to become well acquainted with the American leaders of the Revolution and with Dewitt Clinton, the Governor of New York. His influence among our leaders was widespread and many credit him with the idea that was to become the Erie Canal. He died at the age of 77 of cholera while living in Barneveld, just to the north of us here in the Mohawk Valley. Few people know of or understand the role played by the Dutch in supporting the American Revolution, including financial support. Laid-in in a personal, handwritten letter by the author of this book, Helen Lincklaen Fairchild, to the books former owner, commenting on some editorial remarks by the latter. This book is a limited edition restricted to 750 copies and signed by the editors of G.P. Putnam's Sons. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The upper right-hand corner of the front board has a large blemish (pelase see the photos) where it was exposed to water. There has also been some bumping to the corners and spine tip but nothing extreme. Inside, there is a bookplate of the former owner on the front endpaper and one can see some attempted erasures of price information. The interior pages and plates are bright white and clean, really without toning or foxing. There is a stamped name of a bookseller and other information on the rear endpaper. The front hinge is cracked and the rear intact and the binding seems tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.…
