Er gründete mit Anton Kolig, Robin Christian Andersen, der später sein Schwager wurde, Franz Wiegele und Egon Schiele 1909 aus Protest gegen den kon…servativen Kunstbetrieb die "Neukunstgruppe". Nach Kriegsende war Faistauer in Salzburg, wo er zusammen mit Felix Albrecht Harta und anderen die radikale Künstlervereinigung "Der Wassermann" gründete.
