This study examines the German press and propaganda activities in the Ottoman Empire from 1908 to 1918. After the Young Turk Revolut…ion and the ouster of Sultan Abdul Hamid, the new government had sought to reassess their relationship with the Great (European) Powers which had been engaged in severe economic, political and cultural rivalry within the Empire's borders. The author distinguishes between two phases of propaganda activities: The first phase lasted from 1908 until 1914, during which Germany tried to booster her propaganda through the "Ottoman Lloyd" with the help of press campaigns against the other Great Powers, especially France and Great Britain. The second phase started in the First World War when Germany sought to reach a broader public through mass propaganda by impacting the Turkish population with German thought. # 21473.
