Besides all this, he has been privileged to serve the Lord and the Church as a priest for 64 years. Reflecting on this that sleepless night, he realized how blessed his life has been. As a boy growing up on the farm, he could never have imagined he would have such a meaningful life. In the Epilogue Father Brown names many persons to whom he is grateful. After almost two pages in which he expresses his gratitude, he writes: "I am grateful to the Lord for the innumerable times I have celebrated Mass, preached His Word, forgiven sins in His name, and commended a faithful soul to Him at journey's end."
