Vor kurzem wurde das Improved Receiver Initiated MAC Protocol (IRI-MAC), ein empfängerorientiertes Protokoll, vorgeschlagen, um Kollisionen in RI-MAC durch die Erzeugung einer eindeutigen Wartezeit, Clear Channel Assessment time (CCA_time), pro Knoten zu reduzieren.
