Aggiungi al carrelloThe minute valvatiform-shelled Hydrobiidae are less studied than other hydrobiid gastropods. In this paper, new data on these snails are presented, which have been collected at twelve springs in southern Greece: one in Boeotia, one on Evvoia Island, and ten on the Peloponnese Peninsula. Mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI) and nuclear histone (H3) have been used to confirm the determinations and infer the relationships of the studied gastropods. They represent the genera Daphniola, Graecoarganiella and Isimerope. New localities, expanding the known geographic ranges, have been presented for Daphniola hadei and Daphniola louisi. A species of Daphniola found at two localities has been identified as a species new to science, and its description, including the shell, penis, and female reproductive organs is given. Possible relationships between Graecoarganiella and Isimerope are discussed; their representatives are possibly new species. At one locality a single specimen likely represents a new genus: it was found to be most closely related with Islamia, but genetically (p-distance) too distant to be congeneric with Islamia. 17 pp., 8 figs, gr. 8 [16.5 x 23.7 cm]. …

Aggiungi al carrelloDuring a field trip to the western part of the Balkan Peninsula in 2016, investigations of several caves and karstic springs revealed six new gastropod species living in subterranean waters and resulted in some noteworthy faunistic records. Five of the new species are assigned to the genus Paladilhiopsis Pavlovi_, 1913, namely P. prekalensis sp. n., P. lozeki sp. n., P. szekeresi sp. n., P. wohlberedti sp. n., P. falniowskii sp. n. and one to the genus Plagigeyeria Tomlin, 1930, namely P. steffeki sp. n. New Albania and Kosovo distribution records are given for Iglica illyrica Sch?tt, 1975, Plagigeyeria zetaprotogona Sch?tt, 1960, Vinodolia matjasici (Bole, 1961), and the first georeferenced record is given for Saxurinator schlickumi Sch?tt, 1960. The most important environmental factors influencing habitat selection of these subterranean freshwater gastropods are briefly discussed. 23 pp., 34 figs, gr. 8.…

Aggiungi al carrelloThe genus Montenegrina is revised on the basis of material available at the Hungarian Natural History Museum (Budapest), Naturhistorisches Museum Wien (Vienna), and the Naturmuseum Senckenberg (Frankfurt am Main), as well as newly discovered populations. The following new taxa are described: Montenegrina haringae sp. n., M. lillae sp. n., M. prokletiana sp. n., M. sturanyana sp. n., M. grammica erosszoltani ssp. n., M. grammica improvisa ssp. n., M. hiltrudae desaretica ssp. n., M. hiltrudae selcensis ssp. n., M. laxa delii ssp. n., M. nana barinai ssp. n., M. prokletiana kovacsorum ssp. n., M. rugilabris golikutensis ssp. n., M. rugilabris gregoi ssp. n., M. skipetarica danyii ssp. n., M. skipetarica gurelurensis ssp. n., M. skipetarica pifkoi ssp. n., M. skipetarica puskasi ssp. n., M. sporadica tropojana ssp. n., M. sturanyana gropana ssp. n., M. sturanyana ostrovicensis ssp. n., and M. tomorosi hunyadii ssp. n. A neotype is designated for M. helvola (K?ster, 1860), and M. cattaroensis antivaricostata nom. n. was introduced to replace the junior homonym Clausilia umbilicata costata Boettger, 1907 (non Pfeiffer, 1928). Of each taxon types or specimens from the type localities are figured, and distribution maps are provided. 137 pp., 36 figs, br. gr. 8 [16.5 x 24 cm]. …
