Color frontispiece, t-o-c, artist's preface, intro, map; drawing…s/descripts from Turkey, Greece, (then)-Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Romania. Many b&w drawings, one color. Condition notes: a very good copy with light wear to wrappers, no spine crease, interior lightly tanned but unmarked. A collaborative work between Sheppard (a Medieval art historian) and Fels (a painter and printmaker), capturing many well-known and some lesser known European Byzantine sites, from the age of Justinian through the Palaeologan period.
