Condition notes: a very good copy with light wear to wrappers, no spine crease, interior lightly tanned but unmarked. A collaborative work between Sheppard (a Medieval art historian) and Fels (a painter and printmaker), capturing many well-known and some lesser known European Byzantine sites, from the age of Justinian through the Palaeologan period. Buildings, in Fels' view, give insight into the human beings who built them, a sense of a way of life & a way of feeling. Fels' drawings are selected from more than 300 made in nine extended trips in the Balkans between 1966 & 1986. Fels is Professor of Art, Emerita of California State University, Los Angeles & has exhibited widely in the U. S. A., Greece, Turkey & Mexico. Carl Sheppard, Professor of Art History, Emeritis of the University of Minnesota, is a well known medievalist. He directed the Minnesota-Andravida Project, digging a 13th century building in western Greece. Fels was artist on the Andravida dig. Signed by Artist.
