Mit Widmung des Autors. - Einband etwas lichtrandig, sonst gut und sauebr. - Aus dem Text: Über das Phänomen, daß Ziegel an der Oberfläche des Wassers schwimmen, berichten 4 Schriftsteller: Vitruv II 3, 4, Strabon XIII 1, 67, Seneca nat. quaest. III 25 und Plinius nat. hist. XXXV 171. Den umfangreich…sten Bericht gibt Seneca, und es scheint daher zweckmäßig, mit ihm zu beginnen. Der Bericht Senecas, eingebettet in eine Besprechung der Wirkungen medikaminösen Wassers, gliedert sich deutlich in drei Teile, von denen der erste bis zu den Worten de solidis et duris loquor reicht, der zweite sich in dem kurzen Satz sunt enim multi pumicosi natant erschöpft, der dritte den Rest umfaßt. Im ersten Teil wird das Schwimmen der Menschen und Ziegel damit erklärt, daß es sich um medikaminöses und daher schweres Wasser handelt, dessen spezifisches Gewicht größer ist als das des gewöhnlichen Wassers und daher auch größer ist als das der an der Oberfläche schwimmenden schweren Gegenstände. Im zweiten Teil wird eine besondere Begründung für das Schwimmen der Inseln in Lydien nicht gegeben, sondern nur bemerkt, daß sie pumicosae und leves sunt. Von der Art des Wassers wird nicht gesprochen. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 550 Sonderdruck, klammergeheftet in Papiereinband.
