Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good-. Sewn binding in full glazed buckram cloth-covered boards. Latin text with facing English translation, commentary, notes, indices and facsimile of the "Editio Princeps." This appears to have been a (signature-sewn) paperback edition that was re-bound in cloth as a hardcover. This title is currently available in cheap reprints, but this is a very durable copy of the 1977 Ares edition due to its sewn binding and real cloth covers. The binding is tight and the hinges are intact, with the spine just a shade off square. Rubber-stamped owner info on front flyleaf, but no marks to text. The cloth is soiled, however, and there are patches of ***foxing*** to the endpapers and first and last few pages. Not a beautiful copy, but solid and functional.

Ovid's didactic poem, astronomically themed, is exquisitely rendered in verse, making the constellations and their stories accessible to a broad audience. By retelling the myths that shaped ancient Greeceâs understanding of the stars, this work positions the ancient worldview within the broader literary landscape. Thematic depth and ideas on astronomy and the natural world are woven through the book, making it an invaluable resource for those interested in the interplay between science and poetry in antiquity.
