Zweite Auflage dieser 1980 im Nachlaß Ludwig Finckhs gefundenen Aufzeichnungen, die kurz nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg enstanden. Hesse und Finckh waren zunächst eng…befreundet als beide Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts in Gaienhofen lebten. Später kühlte die Freundschaft aber durch unüberbrückbare politische Gegensätze zunehmend ab. Vor allem Finckhs deutschnationale Haltung bei Beginn des Ersten Weltkriegs und mehr noch sein Verhalten während der NS-Zeit führten zum entgültigen Bruch. Finckh war seit 1933 Parteimitglied und engagierte sich auch in Heinrich Himmlers Organisation "Ahnenerbe". Nach 1945 bat er Hesse um Unterstützung in seinem Spruchkammerverfahren und widmete ihm seinen Gedichtband "Rosengarten". Dagegen hatte sich Hesse strikt verwahrt und auch Finckhs Autobiographie von 1961 als "das Buch eines alten vernagelten Nazis, der 12 Jahre lang 'Heil Hitler' geschrieen hat und es am liebsten wieder täte" bezeichnet. Auf Grund des Drängens von Finckh hat Hesse Finckh 1957 doch noch einmal in seinem Haus in Montagnola empfangen. Sprache: de.

Reutlinger Lebensbilder Band II. Der Reutlinger Schriftsteller, Arzt und Naturschützer (1876-1964) war seit dessen Tübinger Lehrzeit als Buchhändler und…später als beide einige Zeit in Gaienhofen am Bodensee wohnten eng mit Hermann Hesse befreundet. Hesse entfernte sich jedoch auf Grund von Finckhs Ansichten von Familie und Mutterschaft und dessen deutschnationaler politischer Haltung immer mehr von Finckh, zum entgültigen Bruch führten dann Finckhs Einstellung und Engagement zum und im NS-Staat. Finckhs Autobiographie von 1961 bezeichnete Hesse als "Buch eines alten vernagelten Nazis, der 12 Jahre lang 'Heil Hitler' geschrieen hat und es am liebsten wieder täte", hat ihm andererseits aber auch bei seinem Entnazifizierungsverfahren geholfen, in dem er ihm bescheinigte "er habe zwar töricht und schädlich, aber reinen Herzens, gutgläubig" gehandelt (siehe u.a. ausführlich Hesse, Politik des Gewissens.
