Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Fine. 1st Edition. A highly regarded book on Hazlitt, first published in hardback in 1922 and issued as a Penguin biography in 1949. This a first printing of the latter. A great Hazlitt scholar, Howe was the editor of the definitive Centenary edition of Hazlitt's writing. Clean and tight, remarkably so for its age. There is an irritating patch where a sticker has been removed from the back cover, but apart from a tiny owner signature this remains a well preserved copy. SCARCE in such good condition.

Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First edition Penguin paperback. It is an old book, but a great one. The text block, being constructed of cheap wood pulp paper, is going brown. You won't find a copy that isn't going brown, because that's what paperbacks were always printed on in those days. Anyway, this copy is Near Fine after taking the age and the paper into consideration. A stunning book, a nice cover drawing, and in collectable condition. Looks tight and almost new. Neat owner name is hardly a flaw. Language: eng Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng 0.0 Language: eng *****THIS IS THE UNEXPURGATED TEXT! Penguin have decided to deface Wodehouse's original words. The cretins who run publishing are in fact destroying it. The latest wheeze is Wodehouse; his language is outdated! Jeeves shimmered in like a healing zephyr is presumably for the chop. It s a bit difficult for some. What s a zephyr? And let s hope these tiny tidy minded literary experts can then demolish Lewis Carroll. After all, words that are made up are excluding and irrational. All mimsy were the borogoves, and all that tulgey wood nonsense How many of the Penguin editing team are paid up Marxist/Nazi Book Censors? I will not buy any imprint of Penguin until the editing team grow up and get educated in the subject of world literature. I hope they change their name to Bowdler. After Wodehouse I expect Lewis Carroll to be purified; he encourages children to fall down rabbit holes. And then Shakespeare, James Joyce, Nabokov, Twain, and a thousand others. Penguin should hang their heads in shame and sack all the censors. Exit Penguin from my book purchases. Fortunately, this is a pure Plum example of the world that he created; which can never stale. THIS IS THE UNEXPURGATED TEXT! Penguin have decided to purge and deface P. G. Wodehouse style of English prose. Plum was England's godfather of gentle society comedy, a writer who had that deathless ability to pinch the famous Clive James quip to turn a phrase until it caught the light. "I marmaladed a slice of toast with something of a flourish, and I don't suppose I have ever come much closer to saying 'Tra-la-la' as I did the lathering, for I was feeling in mid-season form this morning." Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves. "I hadn't the heart to touch my breakfast. I told Jeeves to drink it himself." Leave It To Jeeves "A melancholy-looking man, he had the appearance of one who has searched for the leak in life's gas-pipe with a lighted candle." The Man Upstairs and Other Stories. "The Right Hon. was a tubby little chap who looked like he had been poured into his clothes and had forgotten to say 'When.'" Carry On, Jeeves. "It was one of those cases where you approve the broad, general principle of an idea but can't help being in a bit of a twitter at the prospect of putting it into practical effect. I explained this to Jeeves, and he said much the same thing had bothered Hamlet." Jeeves in the Morning. I guess the same witless censors can't wait to get working on Shakespeare. The complete works of Wodehouse should be committed to memory in the benighted countries where the Koran has to be learnt by heart. Might save the potential jihadi's brains before they fry. Take this for instance, and have it engraved on your tombstone: It was one of those still evenings you get in the summer, when you can hear a snail clear its throat a mile away".

The PENGUIN SCORES were presented in an attractive landscape format with a stiff card cover. They are certainly an attractive way for anyone to collect today. A useful biographical note by W McNaught is followed by an introduction by Gordon Jacobs. Superb cover design is another reason these scores are collected.

Initials of former owner on the title page and the text paper is inevitably tanning. It is, after all, a mass market paperback. But having said that this is unusually well kept for a paperback of 63 years old. It is sharp and square and good for a few more years. Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. A very rare Penguin Poets issue, with an introduction and plain prose translations of selected letters and poetry by Oliver Bernard. This copy is still firmly bound and looks almost unread. A paperback this old has inevitable signs of age; cheap wood pulp paper for instance. This means em-browning to the text block. Apart from this there is blind stamp of a former owner on the half title. But this merits a grading of Near Fine because it is without a twisted spine or with loose pages. This is a sturdy and collectable RARE Penguin. It was numbered D64 in the Penguin Poets series.
