Edward FitzGerald (31 March 1809 ?- 14 June 1883) was an English poet and writer, best known as the poet of the first and most famous English translation of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. The writing of his name as both FitzGerald and Fitzgerald is seen. Frances Anne "Fanny" Kemble (27 November 1809 ?- 15 January 1893) was a notable British actress from a theatre family in the early and mid-19th century. She was a well-known and popular writer, whose published works included plays, poetry, eleven volumes of memoirs, travel writing and works about the theatre.These letters reveal that FitzGerald was a witty, picturesque and sympathetic letter writer.
