The Heritage Club Sandglass Number v:25 is laid in featuring Nero Was No Hero discussion. 524 pp 4to. The book is set in ancient Rome during Emperor Nero's reign (c. AD 64-68). It tells the story of a Roman patrician, Marcus Vinicius, who falls in love with a Christian woman, Lygia, and through her, comes to embrace Christianity amidst the persecution of believers, culminating in the Great Fire of Rome. The novel explores themes of love, faith, and the conflict between Roman paganism and early Christianity, and it contributed to Sienkiewicz winning the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1905. Illustrations are laid into blank pages throughout, by Salvatore Fiume. 594 pages. In good condition, spine is toned and gutters have some slight stains. A limited edition of 1,500 copies, of which this is number 1,366. Signed on the limitation page by Salvatore Fiume, the illustrator, and Giovanni Mardersteig, the printer. Measures 11 x 7". The slipcase is red paper over boards, with a paper label on the spine. It is dusty on the top and shows some signs of having been partially stuck to the shelf where it has lived for the last 50 years. Please email with questions or to request photos.
