An Alabama native who earned his law degree at the University of Virginia, Johnston practiced only four years before going on the general district bench in 1977. The book offers collections of short stories - some charming, some thought-provoking, but most wickedly funny. The consistent style lifts the language well above that of most self-published works. A word of caution - some of Johnston's humor derives from the earthy language of the criminal defendants who visited his courtroom.
