Harris was an illiterate Dorset shepherd, recruited into the British army in 1803. He fought with the 95th Rifle regiment in Denmark, Spain and the Netherlands between 1806 and 1814. Later, working as a shoemaker in Soho, his recollections of the war were written down by Henry Curling and published in 1848. This edition has been re-edited by Eileen Hathaway to put Harris' disjointed recollections into chronological order. Hathaway has also provided linking passages giving historical context to the story, with quotations from the diaries and memoirs of Harris' fellow soldiers. Also included are 13 illustrations and 6 maps.* This is a NEAR FINE text copy of the 2nd. reprint with minimal age reducing it to VG++.* Hathaway, Eileen 1996-10-01. n.
