Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition ('First published in 1993', also Number Line to 1' ).The book is simply and impersonally inscribed on the title page 'Best wishes, George S. Pappas.' You can see the covers of the book in the photos. They are exceptionally clean. The silver lettering on the spine is very bright. There isn't any rubbing on the cover edges or corners. The spine ends have just a little bit of the usual crinkling. The page edges are perfectly clean. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The only flaw on the covers is a bump/crease below each of the two top corners. The bump has created the same light crease in the same place on all of the pages in the book, far from the print. The pages are otherwise in exceptional condition. They are perfectly clean. They are very bright. There are no other creases, no placeholder creases. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And the author's signed inscription is the only writing to be found anywhere in the book. All of the maps and photographs are in excellent condition. The dust jacket is in very solid shape. It's very clean. The blue coloring is toned a little bit just off the front top edge. There is the same bump/crease at the two top corners. The white flaps are very clean. They are in solid shape. The front one has little crease where it continues from the front top corner, also a tiny closed tear in the crease. The jacket is not priced or clipped. It will be fitted with a protective cover after the photos are scanned. From the dust jacket: 'The reader meets many historical figures such as George Washington, Jefferson Davis, Edgar Allan Poe, Davey Crockett, and James Madison-- not as focal points but as players in the Academy's history. Pappas also marks the USMA's long-term impact, identifying graduates who performed outstandingly in the War with Mexico, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, as elected officials, as founders of colleges, as builders of railroads, canals, bridges, and roads across the United States. Throughout, readers will find the author's engaging prose as captivating as the story he tells-- a style that makes rich use of vignettes, folklore, humor, and the words of ordinary people to bring history to life. Historic maps and numerous photos, many previously unpublished enhance detailed descriptions of physical settings. George S. Pappas is a retired U.S. Army Colonel was founder and first Director of the U.S. Army Military History Institute in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.' From the Foreword by General Edward C. Meyer: 'It is an institution that had a marked influence on the development of a nation, the birth of an army, and the birth of a professional officer corps. Thank God for that institution, and thank George Pappas for providing us with his extraordinary history in To the Point.'. Signed by Author(s).
