Presumed 1st and Presumed Limited Edition, Balliol College, Oxford, no date, circa 1958. 4to. 44pp. Very good clean tight sound square, no bookplate, inscriptions or marks of any kind. Beautifully bound in very good bright gilt lettered black halfcloth over coloured marbled boards, cl;ean crisp corners and edges. Loosely inserted handwritten and signed letter from Robert Ogilve, brother to James, addressed to Dr P.H.B. Lyon, Headmaster of Rugby when the boys were at school. Dr Lyon was probable editor of the letters for the book, and wrote the Foreword. James and Robert were both at Oxford; their mother Mary Ogilve was Principal of St Annes Oxford195366, and Robert appears to have used her stationary for this letter to Dr Lyon. In the letter, Robert writes of his brothers life and refers to enclosing the letters used here in the book. At the time of writing, Robert had just become Fellow of Baliol, Oxford, whence his preface to verso of half title page here. Also loosely inserted attractive Signed Christmas gift label from Robert Ogilvie. Sir Frederick Wolff Ogilvie was father of the boys and Director General of the BBC 193842. James William Ogilvie began military service in 1944 with the R.A.C. Scots Greys, serving 194445 in France, Holland and Germany and was wounded April 1945. He served in India and Burma in 1946, was demobilized in 1947 and returned to Balliol 194748. He died on 25 July 1948 at the Matterhorn, Switzerland, at age 23 in a mountain climbing accident. Also killed were friends James I.A. McKean and William Andrew Bell.
