The system uses specially designed EMATs that generate and detect shear-horizontal (SH) waves, which are less susceptible to noise and scattering than traditional longitudinal waves. The inspection system combines SH-EMATs with synthetic aperture processing and other specialized signal processing techniques to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio and improve flaw detection and characterization abilities, even in thick weldments.
