Foxing throughout, notched along the spine from once being bound within an album, a bit of separation at the top of the fold, and light edgewear, still a very good and complete copy. For voice and piano or guitar, with the lyrics written in di…alect. Also known as "Swanee River" (meaning Suwannee River), "Old Folks at Home" was actually written by songwriter and composer Stephen C. Foster. It's said that Foster never saw the Suwannee River or even visited Florida, but simply liked the way it sounded. He sold the song to E.P. Christy to use in his minstrel shows; Foster sold numerous songs to Christy though this time, for whatever reason, Christy was allowed to take sole credit. Later in 1935, it became Florida's state song, with the lyrics officially revised in 2008 to distance it from its racist origins. For example, the line "still longing for de old plantation" has been replaced with "still longing for my childhood station." This edition, published sometime between 1851 and 1856, has all the original lyrics.
