Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. NEW ILLUSTRATED SELF-INSTRUCTOR IN PHRENOLOGY & PHYSIOLOGY OVER 100 ENGRAVINGS 1859 1ST. This is an interesting book because it opens with a chart showing the cranial measurements of an individual, presumably a former owner, as done by someone using the guidance of the book. Please find: New Illustrated Self-Instructor in Phrenology and Physiology, by O.S. and L.N. Fowler. This small hard cover book (5 x 7 ½ inches, 176 pages plus 10 pages of publisher s adverts) was published by Fowler and Wells of New York, dated 1859 and the apparent First Edition with same date on title and copyright pages. The book includes over one hundred engravings together with the chart and character of a former owner as done by someone else. This 2-page chart is filled out in light pencil and appears in the book after the copyright page. The book is bound in blind-stamped paper covered boards with gilt titles on cover and spine. Condition: This book is in very good condition considering its age and general make-up. The hard covers are a bit rubbed and bumped and show considerable erosion and soiling of the surface of the front cover and a bit on the spine as well including some chips from the finish. The corners and spine tips are bumped and a bit frayed. Inside, as mentioned, the chart is heavily marked in light pencil but these are the only real marks I found in the book, these restricted to two pages intended for this purpose. The interior pages are a bit toned and have some very random and infrequent spots of soiling and some very infrequent foxing, mostly early on. There is really no foxing which one would expect in a book of this age and make-up. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.…
