Au fil du XX e si cle, la plupart d'entre eux tomb rent dans l'oubli et bon nombre de leurs cr ations, devenues obscures, furent parpill es, gar es ou tout simplement d truites. l'inverse de l'architecture, qui a fait l'objet de tr s nombreuses publications, les arts appliqu s demeurent aujourd'hui encore largement m connus pour la p riode de l'Art nouveau en Belgique. C'est pourquoi les ditions du Mus e Horta ont lanc partir de la collection priv e de Jonathan Mangelinckx une s rie de quatre ouvrages collectifs, voulus comme autant de cha nons manquants au niveau scientifique. R alis sous la coordination de Fran oise Aubry, Borys Delobbe et Jonathan Mangelinckx, ce premier tome, pr fac par Paul Greenhalgh, prend pour pivot Victor Horta afin de red couvrir le parcours et les cr ations de quatre autres figures de l'Art nouveau belge : Fernand Dubois, Paul Du Bois, L on Ledru et Georges Hob . Au fil des contributions de Fran oise Aubry, glantine Lebacq, Anne Pluymaekers et Raymond Balau, c'est tout un pan relativement m connu de ce ph nom ne pr curseur du design qui, au XXI e si cle, acc de enfin une nouvelle visibilit ///---- Aan het begin van de 19e eeuw, in een tijd dat schilderkunst en beeldhouwkunst al hun eigen revoluties hadden bereikt, werkte een hele jonge generatie kunstenaars-ambachtslieden in Belgi om de grenzen tussen schone en toegepaste kunst te vervagen. , tussen de "grote kunsten" en de "kleine kunsten". Het succes van deze vernieuwers van decoratieve kunst was er snel, in binnen- en buitenland, maar de val was des te brutaler. In de loop van de twintigste eeuw raakten de meesten van hen in de vergetelheid en veel van hun creaties, die duister waren geworden, werden verstrooid, zoekgeraakt of gewoon vernietigd. In tegenstelling tot de architectuur, die het onderwerp is van talrijke publicaties, blijft de toegepaste kunst vandaag grotendeels onbekend voor de art nouveau-periode in Belgi . Daarom lanceerde ditions du Mus e Horta een serie van vier collectieve werken uit de priv collectie van Jonathan Mangelinckx, bedoeld als zoveel ontbrekende schakels op wetenschappelijk niveau. Geproduceerd onder de co rdinatie van Fran oise Aubry, Borys Delobbe en Jonathan Mangelinckx, neemt dit eerste deel, voorafgegaan door Paul Greenhalgh, Victor Horta als spil om de carri re en de creaties van vier andere figuren van de Belgische Art Nouveau te herontdekken: Fernand Dubois, Paul Du Bois, L on Ledru en Georges Hob . Voor elk van deze vijf kunstenaars verzorgt een vorser een bijhorend wetenschappelijk artikel met bibliografische verwijzingen en illustraties die vaak nooit eerder werden gepubliceerd. In dit eerste volume staat ook een voorwoord dat werd geschreven door Pr. Paul Greenhalgh, directeur van het Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts (Norwich), alsook een introductietekst door Fran oise Aubry (voormalig conservatrice van het Horta Museum), getiteld ?Gustave Serrurier, Victor Horta, Paul Hankar en Henry van de Velde: cr er un nouveau mobilier la fin du XIXe si cle? In zijn niet aflatende zoektocht streeft Horta geleidelijk aan naar meer puurheid en soberheid in de meubelstukken die hij voor zijn klanten maakt - die meestal gefortuneerd zijn en houden van wat nieuw is. Om de balans op te maken van zijn bijdrage tot de vernieuwing van de decoratieve kunsten vanaf het laatste decennium van de XIXe eeuw, met onder andere een nauwe samenwerking met het atelier van de meubelmaker Henri Pelseneer (1847-1909), is niemand beter geplaatst dan Fran oise Aubry, een onmisbare referentie in het onderzoek naar Belgische Art nouveau en internationaal erkende specialist van het ?uvre van Horta. De architect Georges Hob , die een autodidact was en een grote concurrent van Horta, kende tijdens zijn leven een aanzienlijk succes in Belgi , alvorens een beetje in de vergetelheid te geraken. De herontdekking van zijn werk, zowel wat betreft architectuur als decoratieve kunsten, is enorm veel verschuldigd aan Pr. Raymond Balau (ENSAV La Cambre), die zowel architect is als stedenbouwkundige, kunst- en architectuurcriticus en onderzoeker op gebied van architectuur uit de XXe eeuw in Belgi .
