Rückenschild. - Friedrich Maximilian von Klinger (1752 in Frankfurt am Main - 1831 in Dorpat (Estland) zählt zu den bedeutendsten Dramatikern der Sturm-und-Drang-Zeit. Sein 1776 zunächst unter dem Titel "Der Wirrwarr…" erschienenes Drama "Sturm und Drang" (von Christoph Kaufmann umbenannt) gab der Epoche ihren Namen. In seiner späten Schaffensperiode entstanden mit Titeln wie Fausts Leben wichtige Romane. Klinger führte einen umfangreichen Briefwechsel mit Goethe, Caroline von Egloffstein, Fanny Tarnow, Johann Gottfried Seume, Ernst Moritz Arndt und Wilhelm von Wolzogen. Frontispiz und Titel mit stärkerem Papier der Zeit hinterlegt. Kupfertafel im Inneren ebenfalls mittels eines Papierstreifens restauriert. Titelblatt gestempelt; handschriftl. bibliograph. Notiz auf dem Vorsatz. Papier gebräunt und etwas stockfleckig. Untere Ecke einer Seite (S. 245) bei geringfügigem Textverlust abgerissen. de Band.
